Flat Head Catfish Removal 

9/13/2018 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM 

Located at DNR Waycross Fisheries Section

Volunteers interested in assisting with removal of the invasive Flathead Catfish in the Satilla River is requested to contact the Waycross Fisheries Office at 912/285-6094 for details. Volunteers need to be physically fit and able to work on small boats in adverse conditions (extreme heat, etc.) for 3+ hours.


Buck Shoals WMA Kids Fishing Event

Located at Buck Shoals WMA

Bring your family to a fun, free Kids Fishing Event at Buck Shoals WMA. Kids (under 16) can bring their special big person to help them catch and keep fish according to fishing limits (5 bream, 3 bass, 3 catfish). All you need to bring are your pole, bait (no bread or corn please), and your spirit of excitement! Other items you may want to include are water, bug spray, & a folding chair to sit on. These events occur every 3rd Saturday, May through September, and last from 8:00 am -12:00 pm. Hope to see you there!


Fort Benning Kids Fishing Event

Located at the Fort Benning Russ Pond

Join us for a fabulous, fun day of fishing at this Kids event held the 3rd Tuesday of each month (April-September). Fishing in Russ Pond (located on the Main Post near McDonald Village) is for those age 15 and younger, but parents and older siblings can come help! All children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring your own fishing pole and bait. Outdoor Recreation will have a limited number of poles and bait (reserve one by calling 706-545-7978).

Give it a Shot LADIES ONLY Handgun 101 - this class is designed to teach participants basic safe handling and operations of various handgun actions. Participants will have the opportunity to shoot with one-on-one guidance.


Kid's Fishing Event: Evan's County PFA

 A kids fishing event is a perfect place to introduce young anglers to fishing. This event is for kids age 16 and under. Lunch and drinks will be provided. Event sponsored by the Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division.

Each year, the fourth Saturday of September brings National Hunting and Fishing Day. On this day, celebrated Sept. 22 this year, everyone can enjoy any of nine FREE scheduled celebratory events, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division. Events include Kids Fishing Events and Outdoor Adventure Days. Additionally, this day is a Free Fishing Day! Find out more info, including a list of scheduled events and locations at


Free Fishing Day

Located at the Rocky Mountain Public Fishing Area 

Today is a Free Fishing Day! If you don't have a pole, don't worry. Rocky Mountain PFA staff will be at the Visitor's Center from 9 am - 12 pm with loaner poles to help you enjoy a morning of fishing. Free Fishing Days means that no fishing or trout license is required for all Georgia residents on public waters. All other fishing regulations apply.


Give it a Shot Rifle 101

Located at Cedar Creek WMA Shooting Range 

Give it a Shot Rifle 101-the class will open to both male and female students, ages 12 years old and above, with little or no training and experience with handling and operating a rifle. This class will also be a live firing event.
