This autumn is the first celebration of Hunting and Fishing Day at Pine Knob Park. By highlighting the skills and culture of wildlife conservation, the Parks hope to encourage newcomers to become involved and to encourage the next generation of caretakers.
Among the day’s events are a 3-D Bow Shoot, Waterfowl Hunting seminar, and food!
The Competition Bow Shoot is open to all archers on the Park's 3-D target trail. Scoring is based upon 30 targets, which is 15 targets from two shooting locations. The trail is accessible. Some of the targets include wild turkey, elk, black bear, white tailed deer, and moose. The competition bow shoot is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For casual range users or competitors, all range fees have been waived for Hunting and Fishing Day.
The waterfowl hunting displays will be up 8 a.m. to noon. The Waterfowl 101 seminar begins at 10 a.m. Learn the basics of calling, decoying and shooting waterfowl. Waterfowl Hunting Seminar is presented is cooperation with Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area. This is excellent preparation for Youth Waterfowl Weekend, Oct. 9-10.
